STEVEN GERRARD is confident Graham Dorrans won’t face another lengthy spell on the sidelines following a scan on a knee knock.

The midfielder missed several months of last season through injury as he endured a difficult first campaign at Ibrox.

But he was part of the Light Blues squad that travelled to Spain for the Gers’ pre-season training camp last weekend.

Dorrans returned home on Thursday to undergo tests after feeling discomfort whilst being put through in paces on the continent.

Gerrard is pleased with the outcome of the investigation, however, as the 31-year-old looks to get back on the park as quickly as possible.

He said: “He came over with us, Graham, and had a bit of a knee issue.

“He tried to start with the physio and he had a little bit of a feeling that he wasn’t happy with and we thought the safest thing was to get it checked out.

“The options were to get it checked out in Spain or checked out in England. The issue we have got with getting it checked out in Spain is that we don’t know the doctors, don’t know the hospital, don’t know the people who will report on the scan.

“So the sensible thing was for him to go back to the people that we trust and get it scanned and checked out.

“We are really happy with the news and what we have discovered on the scan. It is good news.

“He will join back up with the squad when we get home and the physio will assess him and he will have a plan to try and get fit and catch up and be a part of it. The scan was good news.

“There was a chance it could have been [serious]. That is why we wanted to scan it and take no risks, especially at this time of the year, but it has come back good news.”
