Beth Potter from Bearsden won the hearts of Hampden tonight with a heroic performance in the 10,000m.

The former backstroke swimmer achieved a personal best time after leading the race with nine laps to go.

She was clawed back by the field and was eventually pipped for fourth on the line by England's Kate Avery.

But Potter, 22, took a lap of honour waving a Saltire as a packed Hampden erupted again.
