Scotland's Commonwealth Games medal hopes were bolstered at the inaugural British Open Doubles Championship at Glasgow's Scotstoun Leisure Centre as the second men's pairing pushed the leading contenders all the way.

Alan Clyne, the Scottish No.1, and Harry Leitch were forced into a final-game decider after a spirited comeback from Stuart Crawford and Scottish rising talent Greg Lobban before emerging 2-1 winners. Clyne and Leitch just missed out on a bronze at the 2010 Games in Delhi and are confident of improving on that on home soil in the summer, but Crawford and Lobban will also fancy their chances after almost certainly booking a place at the Games. Third place also went to Scots, after Lyall Paterson and Douglas Kempsell beat the Welsh pair Peter Creed and Joel Makin 2-0.

The women's title went to Deon Saffrey, the Welsh champion, and national No.1 Tesni Evans who edged out the Scottish No.1 Alex Clark and Frania Gillen-Buchert.

Clyne and Gillen-Buchert had to settle for silver in the mixed, after losing 2-0 to the powerful Welsh team of former world No.3 David Evans and Saffrey. Kevin Moran and US-based Clark were third after beating Welsh rivals Tesni Evans and Creed in straight games.
