GLASGOW commuters are being urged to plan travel well in advance of Thursday's cycling time trials.

The number of planned road closures will increase with major diversions in place for bus routes.

A First Glasgow spokeswoman said: "We are encouraging our customers to plan ahead if they are going to watch the event.

"For customers not attending the event we are asking them to consider whether they need to change their normal travelling patterns.

"On Thursday we will be operating all services, but please be aware that a number of them will be diverted and there are a small number of areas that we won't be able to access."

Meanwhile, officials believe that as busy as last weekend was, the closing weekend coming up may be even busier. ScotRail stations manager George Allan said things were running smoothly after a hectic weekend but he added: "My gut is that this coming weekend could be busier.

"It will be the 'final breath' so to speak, and I think people who maybe haven't seen anything will rush out to buy tickets because it's their last chance.

"It has been incredibly busy, but people have been great.

"Everyone is in a good mood, there's a party atmosphere. That makes everything easier."

More than 200,000 spectators and visitors are expected today making around an additional 400,000 journeys.

Events will be taking place at nine different venues (eight around Glasgow and the shooting at the Barry Buddon centre in Carnoustie), including athletics at Hampden Park and the mountain biking competition at Cathkin Braes.
