TIMETABLES for dedicated Commonwealth Games shuttle buses are now available, as organisers encourage spectators to travel to and from venues on foot, bike or public transport.

Parking at and near city Games venues has been banned for anyone except wheelchair users and other disabled visitors in an effort to minimise congestion as an estimated million visitors descend on Glasgow from July 23.

First Bus, the official transport operator for Glasgow 2014, will run shuttle services from Buchanan Street Bus Station to key venues, including the Emirates Arena and Hampden Stadium. Passengers will be able to travel for free by displaying their Games' ticket to the driver.

Outside the city, only the Barry Buddon shooting venue in Carnoustie will have car parking spaces automatically available to spectators, while dedicated park and ride sites will be in operation for a number of major events, but spaces must be pre-booked.

Park and rides facilities will be open to ticket-holders attending the opening ceremony at Celtic Park, Mountain Bike Trial at Cathkin Braes, Track and Field events and the Closing Ceremony at Hampden, Rugby Sevens at Ibrox and the Triathlon at Strathclyde Country Park

With less than 50 days to go until the Games get under way, spectators are being encouraged to plan their journey early using the Commonwealth Games journey planner app.

The app, available through the Glasgow 2014 website, has details on public transport options, shuttle bus services, park and ride and accessible transport services.

More than 1000 additional cycle parking spaces have also been installed at Games venues, while opening hours for the city's rail and Subway services will also be extended for the duration of the event.

David Grevemberg, Glasgow 2014 Chief Executive, said: "There are lots of measures in place to assist, from shuttle buses to enhanced services with later trains. With less than 50 days to go, we would encourage everyone travelling to the Games to plan their travel and book ahead."

Stuart Patrick, chief executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, said: "It's good that information is being supplied as early as possible, allowing businesses to start to plan their operations during the Games.

"We urge all businesses to really think about their plans and to make full use of the suite of tools available on the getreadyglasgow.com website."
