Glasgow schoolchildren have teamed up with Freddie Cowan, guitarist of indie rock band The Vaccines, to release a new charity song to celebrate the Commonwealth Games.

Cowan flew in from the US to perform on the track with East 40, a group of pupils from the St Mungo's Learning Community aged between three and 17.

The song can be downloaded from iTunes, and will raise funds to help Unicef change children's lives across the Commonwealth.

It has already caught the imagination of hundreds of pupils in the city, not only because of its inspiring message but because the song has been written and recorded with the help of band members from The Vaccines, Franz Ferdinand and Frightened Rabbit.

On Wednesday, East 40, a group of singers from St Anne's primary and other schools from St Mungo's Learning Community will perform the song with Cowan, lead guitarist of The Vaccines, who recently produced the track at his studio in New York.

Let the Games Begin is available on iTunes, with 76p of the £1.29p cost going directly to Unicef to support its work to Put Children First around the world. Unicef and the Glasgow 2014 organisers are working together to save and change children's lives in Scotland and the Commonwealth.
