Daniel Keatings sent out a clear message to his Glasgow 2014 rivals at the British Championships at Liverpool's Echo Arena.

The Scot, who won bronze in Saturday's all-round competition, added two individual titles yesterday, which included recording a personal best on the pommel horse. European champion for the event, he produced an excellent routine with a high degree of difficultly to record a score of 16.133 points to squeeze England's all-round champion Max Whitlock into silver. Keatings also won the parallel bars with 16.000.

Compatriot Daniel Purvis, silver medallist in the all-round event, added silver in the parallel bars (15.566) and silver on the rings (14.566) behind Whitlock. In Saturday's all-round event, Purvis missed out on his fourth title when he suffered a fall on the floor. It left the way open for Whitlock to retain his title with Purvis and Keatings picking up the minor medals.

Keatings was just 0.2 points behind Whitlock going into the final rotation but a fall on the high bar left him unable to overhaul the Englishman. He scored 13.150 points, to finish with an all-round total of 87.050 points.

Frank Baines was sixth to make it three Scots in the top half-dozen, which suggests the Commonwealth Games will be keenly fought.

Purvis was equivocal after taking silver ahead of this weekend's World Cup final in Tokyo. "It was mixed competition to be honest. I struggled on vault but managed to land it safely which is fine," he said. "I would have been disappointed not to finish in the top three."

Keatings was satisfied with his progress as he makes his return to competing on all six pieces of apparatus. "I wasn't really expecting that. I was hoping to just come and put in a performance, but coming out with a bronze I am really happy," he said.

Commonwealth veteran Adam Cox was 12th and, in the under-18 event, Daniel Iley narrowly missed out on an all-round medal, finishing in fourth.

In the senior women's competition, the highest Scot was double Commonwealth gymnast Emma White who placed 13th overall on Saturday but won bronze on vault yesterday.
