Scotland have been spared the ignominy of having no men's relay teams on the track at Hampden at the Commonwealth Games after a 4x400 metres squad, led by Great Britain internationalist Jamie Bowie, last night met the qualifying time at the EAP Namur meeting in Belgium.

The quartet of Bowie, Greg Louden, Kris Robertson and Grant Plenderleith ran 3:06.58 to secure their spot in Glasgow, a mere 42-hundredths of a second inside the standard.

Elsewhere in Namur, Meghan Beesley all but confirmed her place alongside Eilidh Child in the 400m hurdles at the European Championships after finishing inside the UK qualifying mark.
