The national stadium will witness all the drama as some of the best athletes and para-sport athletes in the world go flat out in tests of speed, power, agility and endurance. With an array of sprints, middle, and long-distance running events alongside the likes of the long jump, high jump, javelin there will be something for everyone as Hampden tranforms into a cauldron of excitement.

The Big Event

The men's 100m final is always the blue ribbon event. And with Jamaica's Usain Bolt dominating the event in recent years along with fellow countryman Yohan Blake, it's sure to be one of the highlights of the Games. Bolt may have won four golds over two Olympics, but his medal cabinet is missing a Commonwealth accolade, and he's said to be keen to remedy this.

London 2012 gold medallists Mo Farrah and Jessica Ennis are also likely to be cheered on by a capacity crowd.

Scot to Watch

Eilish McColgan met the Games qualifying time in the 1500m earlier this year. The Dundee athlete, who specialises in the 3000m steeplechase, represented Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics.

Coached by her mother, former 10,000m world champion and Olympic silver medallist, Liz, she is an exciting young athlete who will have everything to play for in front of her home crowd.
