Jack Laugher claimed his second gold of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games in combining with Chris Mears to win men's synchronised three-metres springboard title on Friday.

Laugher, the one-metre springboard individual champion on Wednesday, and Mears finished with a total of 431.94 to triumph at Edinburgh's Royal Commonwealth Pool.

Australia's Matthew Mitcham and Grant Nel - on the podium alongside Laugher on the opening day of diving competition - took silver with 403.14.

A second English pair reached the podium as Nick Robinson-Baker and Freddie Woodward of England claimed bronze with 364.41.

For Laugher the victory made up for relinquishing gold medal position in the individual three-metres event and finishing with silver on Thursday.

Their best dive was an inward three-and-a-half somersault which scored 85.68 - one of three scores in the eighties in their six-dive set.

England's Alicia Blagg and Rebecca Gallantree - the pair who combined for synchronised 3m platform gold on Wednesday - advanced together with Hannah Starling and Scotland's Grace Reid for the final of the women's one-metre springboard competition.

Just one of the 13 entrants - Tonga's Maria Zarka - missed out on a place in the final, with Esther Qin of Australia advancing in first place.

Gallantree was sixth, Reid seventh, Starling eighth and Blagg 11th.

Tom Daley and James Denny will compete for England in the men's synchronised 10m platform on Friday evening.

The duo have had just seven days of training together after deciding to enter last week.

As there are only four pairs in the competition, just two medals will be awarded, so there is little margin for error.

Daley's defence of the individual 10m platform title he won in Delhi in 2010 takes place on Saturday.
