Scotland off to flying start with victory over Seychelles in badminton

Host nation Scotland got their Commonwealth Games challenge off to a flying start with a convincing opening victory over the Seychelles in the badminton team event.

The Scots raced into an unassailable 3-0 lead in their first Group C encounter with victories in the mixed doubles, and men's and women's singles rubbers.

Martin Campbell and Jillie Cooper eased past Juliette Ah-Wan and Georgie Cupidon 21-11 21-5 before Kieran Merrilees made easy work of world number 661 Kervin Ghislain, winning 21-2 21-8.

Rebekka Findlay then saw off Allisen Camille 21-7 21-11.

Scotland also had a win in the Lawn Bowls at Kelvingrove with David Peacock, Neil Speirs and Darren Burnett securing a 27-6 triples triumph over Indian trio Kamal Kumar Sharma, Sunil Bahadur and Samit Malhotra.
