NEW life was injected into the Western and Eastern Premier Divisions yesterday as leaders Clydesdale and Watsonians slumped to defeats.

At Titwood, Clydesdale went in as firm favourites against Uddingston, but the visitors landed a morale-boosting six-wicket win.

Batting first, Clydesdale reached a total of 222 – which looked good enough as Uddingston lost opening pair Paul Hoffmann and Amir Gul cheaply.

However, Calum MacLeod and Sri Lankan professional Ras Priyadarshana formed a match-winning partnership, both scoring 76, before MacLeod's brother Alan's hard-hitting 31 led to Uddingston winning in the penultimate over.West of Scotland stayed in the title hunt after a nine-wicket demolition of stuttering Stirling at New Williamfield. Ian Cran and Dave McNulty each claimed three wickets as Stirling were skittled out for 81. Ian Young led a successful run-chase with 42no as West gained revenge for their defeat in the corresponding fixture at Hamilton Crescent. Meanwhile in the east, Watsonians tasted defeat for the first time as reigning SNCL champions Carlton demonstrated their credentials at Grange Loan – ahead of today trying to retain their National T20 Cup crown.Dewald Nel and Peter Leggett both struck twice to help reduce the hosts to 76-5 before Preston Mommsen, seldom available for club duty due to Saltires commitments, produced a batting masterclass on his way to a match-winning 84. His efforts helped Carlton post what had looked like an improbable 207-9.Michael Herdman struck twice to remove Andy Hislop and South African Jean Symes as the Myreside men were reduced to 22-2.Umair Mohammed – off whose bowling Toby Bailey was caught for 45 – claimed 4-31 as the visitors were dismissed for 166.Grange joined Carlton at the top of the table with a convincing win at Forfarshire. Skipper Neil McCallum hit an unbeaten 77 as Grange reached their target of 188 with eight wickets and almost nine overs to spare.Saltire Gordon Goudie scored 30 runs and claimed four wickets as Stoneywood-Dyce easily beat Arbroath at Lochlands.
