Brown tribute to Boucher

Dougie Brown, the Scotland World Cup cricketer, last night paid tribute to Mark Boucher, the veteran South African wicketkeeper, who has confirmed he will retire immediately from international cricket after a freak accident on Monday.

Boucher suffered a punctured eyeball and needed emergency surgery when he was struck by a flying bail during his side's match with Somerset at Taunton.

Initially he was ruled out of the South Africans' up-and-coming Test series against England, but in light of the seriousness of the damage, he has opted to hang up his gloves. Brown, the former Clackmannanshire and Warwickshire all-rounder Brown said: "It is a terrible way for Mark to end his career. He deserves massive congratulations for his contribution to the game and I wish him the best of luck with his recovery."
