Calum MacLeod believes 2015 can be even better than his record-breaking breakthrough year.

The former Uddingston and Warwickshire player MacLeod enjoyed the best 12 months of his career as he hit four international centuries - including the highest score by a Scot in ODIs - and earned a two-year contract with Durham after a successful loan period which saw him top-score for the county in the Natwest T20 Blast.

However, the 26 year-old believes the best is yet to come as he and his Scotland team-mates gear up to compete in next month's World Cup.

MacLeod, who reinvented himself as a top-order batsman after problems were identified with his bowling action, said: "Last year couldn't have gone any better and it's still hard to believe how far I've come. But I'm more concerned about looking forward and, without setting targets, I believe there is more to come.

"I used to set targets when I was younger but there is a danger of chasing them too hard instead of concentrating on your job. What I aim to do is go out and play with a smile on my face and enjoy what I am doing. That is the formula that has worked for me so far."

The Scots head to the UAE next week to complete their World Cup preparations with four ODIs against Afghanistan and Ireland.

They then open their tournament campaign against co-hosts New Zealand in Dunedin on February 17 and MacLeod revealed the extent of Scotland's ambitions following a successful 2014.

He added: "As a team we don't want to put a limit on what we hope to achieve but we certainly want to take a Full Member down.

"Scotland have never won a World Cup match so we obviously want to put right but we also aim to be competing with the Test nations and put Scottish cricket firmly on the map."
