PROUD Preston Mommsen insists Scotland can hold their heads high regardless of the outcome of their final two World Cup matches.

The Scots were playing Sri Lanka in Hobart this morning prior to concluding their campaign against Australia on Saturday at the same venue.

Mommsen's men face the prospect of heading home without a win from six Pool A matches. That would mean Scotland had competed in a total of fifteen matches at three World Cup finals without achieving a single victory.

However, the captain was remaining positive on the eve of their penultimate game. He said: "We've played some good cricket, some very good cricket at times, but we know we haven't done it for long enough to close out games.

"We've been in a couple of winning positions and maybe just through a lack of experience on this stage we've not been able to win those games. "So when we look back we'll be proud of some of the cricket we have played but we are still very excited about the last two games. We don't get the opportunity to play against full members very often so to have two in the space of a few days is very exciting for us."

While the team are still looking for their first win, Mommsen is also proud of several individual performances with Josh Davey, Matthew Cross and Kyle Coetzer leading the way. Going into the Sri Lanka game Davey was the joint sixth leading wicket-taker in the tournament while only two wicket-keepers boasted more dismissals than Cross.

Coetzer's 256 against Bangladesh last week was the highest score by an Associate batsmen in World Cups and the sixth highest by any batsman at this tournament. Mommsen added: "One of the things we looked at coming into the tournament is that we wanted players to feature in those rankings so to have Josh and Matthew ranked so high is something we are very proud of. Kyle's performance the other day is also something that lets people know who we are."
