The Edinburgh side play host to Arbroath, the Eastern Premier Division leaders, on Saturday - they must win to stay in title contention - before bidding to win the Scottish Cup for the first time with a final against their capital rivals Grange on Sunday. Any decision on the player's fitness will be taken out of Carlton's hands as Mommsen is a Cricket Scotland-contracted player.
Pete Steindl, the Scotland coach, said: "Preston has a hip injury which appears to be a wear and tear thing. We'll have to listen to medical advice and consider his work load over the coming days and weeks. If he was to be playing for Scotland at the weekend I'd say he would be okay, but whether he would be fit for two matches is a different matter."
No play was possible on the second day of the LiveSport.co.uk Pro Series three-day match at New Williamfield, Stirling, the second game of a two-match series, the first match last month having been washed out after just 10 overs. Highlanders will resume on 256 for seven in their first innings with the possibility of a result likely to be manufactured by a declaration by both captains. Richie Berrington's Reivers need victory to complete a Pro Series double, having already sealed the 50-over title.
