Fringe players given a chance to prove worth TEAMs TEAMs

SALTIRES' fringe players will get the chance to stake their claim for promotion in this week's three-day match with Ireland A at Uddingston.

Five uncapped players, including 16-year-old batting prospect Andrew Umeed, have been named in the Development XI for the match which starts this morning.

Places are also up for grabs in next month's Intercontinental Cup meeting with Canada.

Pete Steindl, the national coach, said: "Anyone who puts their hands up over the next couple of weeks will come under consideration for the I-Cup."We're taking the chance to look at a few players who are just underneath our senior squads to see what they can do."Saltires pace bowler Gordon Goudie returns after injury while there is also a chance for Qasim Sheikh to earn a senior recall after an absence of almost two years.Along with Umeed, Michael Leask, Umair Mohammed, Josh Edwards and Aman Bailwal are the other uncapped players in the team.
