Rain claims opening day

Day one of the third Investec Test was confirmed as a washout just before tea last night.

Persistent rain was still falling at Edgbaston when umpires made the inevitable call that no play would be possible between England and West Indies.

Covers remained in place, as rain fell for five hours. It is the first full Test match day to be washed out in England since the 2009 Ashes, at the same venue.
