SCOTLAND were yesterday denied the chance to win the ICC Associate Tri-Series by the rarity of rain in the desert.

The Scots needed to beat Ireland in the final match of the tournament to seal a morale-boosting triumph ahead of next month's World Cup. However, heavy rain meant the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled. Bowler Ali Evans summed-up the team's frustration by tweeting: "Rained off in the desert - that is a first! Shame to miss out on the last game." Batsman Freddie Coleman added: "Can't believe we're rained off in the middle of the desert." Grant Bradburn's side lost their first two matches to the Irish and Afghanistan but hit back with a thumping revenge win over the Afghans, meaning another victory yesterday would have seen them win the tournament on net run-rate. The squad fly home today before heading to Australia to complete their World Cup preparations. They play official warm-up matches against Ireland and West Indies in Sydney and open their tournament campaign against co-hosts New Zealand in Dunedin on February 17.
