Calum McLeod was out in the first over, and Neil Carter's debut finished on three runs as the Saltires chased a modest 132-7.
With four recruits from county cricket making their official debuts, the Scots were looking to build on last summer's short-game success against Bangladesh. It looked good when new boys Carter, Iain Wardlaw and Matt Machan split all the Afghan wickets to fall, however, a miserable effort saw them fall 28 runs short.
