Touch of the Caribbean as Greenock reach 150

Almost unnoticed, amidst the incessant rain which has enveloped Scotland during the past month, Greenock CC have been celebrating their 150th anniversary and will welcome one of the biggest names in the sport to Glenpark on Saturday when former West Indian star, Gordon Greenidge, is among the guests for a flag unfurling ceremony, prior to the Scottish Cup tussle against Falkland.

This will form part of the festivities at a Caribbean-themed afternoon, with club official, Peter Hemspey echoing the thoughts of many people when he said: "Hopefully with sunshine, and not tropical showers."

Greenidge's presence offers a chance to recall how the Barbados batsman, who amassed 7558 runs during 128 Tests for the Windies between 1974 and 1991, was persuaded to turn out for Greenock in the Western Union, as well as making six appearances for Scotland in 1990, including four in the B & H Cup.
