Andrew Umeed, the West of Scotland batsman, was last night celebrating his highest international score, of 138, as Scotland Under-19s posted 319 for six on their way to an easy win over Asoka College on their Sri Lanka tour.

His knock was the sixth highest score by a Scot at this level and John Blain, the West coach, said it was proof that practice makes perfect "because he is one of the most dedicated kids around".

Umeed had fine support from Arbroath's Ross McLean, who hit 55, while Greenock's Alex Baum scored 28. Abdul Sabri, the Drumpellier pace bowler, took four wickets for 25 and Chayank Gosain claimed three for the second game running as Scotland won by 173 runs.

Umeed's 138 was just 14 fewer than the highest by a Scotland U19 player, achieved by his team-mate Michael English last season. Kyle Coetzer and Calum MacLeod are among those who have also topped Umeed's effort.
