WEST of Scotland produced one of the stand-out performances on the first day of the new domestic season with a 129-run Scottish Cup win over Prestwick at Hamilton Crescent.

The Glasgow side appear to have a new star in left-arm spinner Rajeev Verma, who claimed 5-10. His debut effort and three cheap wickets for Gavin Smith helped dismiss Prestwick for 41.

Jatinder Singh had earlier top-scored with 73 as West posted 170-8.

In the same group, Carlton debutant Hamish Gardiner scored a composed 65no to help the Grange Loan outfit ease to an eight-wicket win against Corstorphine.

Saltires skipper Gordon Drummond had put Carlton in charge with 3-12 to dismiss Corstorphine for 127.

Grange were also comfortable winners, returning from Greenock with a six-wicket success.

Greenock's Saltires batsman Richie Berrington was out for just two and they could only muster 105. Berrington took 4-16 to reduce Grange to 55-4 but the visitors suffered no further alarms.

Verma's five wickets were trumped by evergreen Imran Adrees, who claimed a six-wicket haul for just seven runs as Drumpellier skittled Weirs for 61, having made 168-9.

Ayr youngster Callum Leck claimed 5-22 as Poloc made just 98 at New Cambusdoon. New home skipper Andi McElnea scored a half-century to guide his team to an eight-wicket win.

Holders Heriot's had a comfortable seven-wicket win at Falkland.

o SCOTLAND will bid to get their World Cup qualifying campaign on track when they host Kenya this summer. The ICC last night announced the crucial fixtures will take place at Mannofield, Aberdeen, on June 30 and July 2.

The Saltires have fallen to third in the eight-team table with the top two automatically qualifying for the global event in 2015. Two wins over the Africans, just a point behind, coupled with Ireland beating Holland twice, would see Pete Steindl's side reclaim second place.

Scotland will complete their qualifying campaign in Ireland.
