JAMIE INSALL says he is determined to seize his opportunity after the promising striker agreed a three-year deal with Hibernian. The 22-year-old moves to Easter Road following a prolific spell in English non-league football where he scored 42 goals last season.
Now the former Kidderminster Harriers' youth team player says he is delighted to have secured a move north after impressing during a month's trial.
Speaking to the Hibs official website, Insall, whose move is still subject to international clearance, said: “This is a great move for me - I'm absolutely delighted to have been given the chance to sign for Hibs. My aim now is to repay the faith that the manager has shown in me working hard, developing my game and ultimately helping the first team by scoring goals.
"It's a big step up, but I've waited a long time for my opportunity step up to full time football and I'm determined to make the most of it by doing everything I can to succeed. Playing in non-league football down south has given me a good grounding and, although I'm still quite raw, I've got a real hunger to kick on and make the most of my chance here at Hibs."
Head Coach Alan Stubbs said: "We're pleased to have Jamie signed up for the next few years. Jamie has impressed on trial and he's earned his chance at taking the step up to professional football. We feel he's got the potential to succeed at the Club and he now has the opportunity to work hard and develop his game with us."
Insall had been with Stourbridge FC over the summer and their manager praised Hibs for their handling of the transfer.
"We spoke to Jamie before the summer,” said manager Gary Hackett. “He wanted to get himself fit and we were happy to give him a chance. He did well and we offered him terms.
"Hibs came in for him out of the blue, really, and everything went from there. We can't fault the way they've gone about it. Obviously Jamie was not on a contract so they had no obligation to us, but they've been very understanding and professional, and they've made a small payment to us as a token of goodwill, which is very much appreciated.
"It goes without saying that everybody at the club is delighted for Jamie, and we wish him well. It's a tremendous opportunity for him.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
