The Scottish Football Association have acknowledged that under-fire referee Willie Collum was responsible for another high-profile blunder by rescinding the red card shown to Callum Paterson last weekend.
The Hearts full-back was dismissed following a heavy challenge on Hamilton midfielder Darian Mackinnon during Accies' ill-tempered 3-2 win at New Douglas Park.
Furious Tynecastle head coach Robbie Neilson revealed that they had trained with 10 men prior to the fixture after finding out that Collum - who has sent off 9 Hearts players in 36 outings - was in charge.
The capital club launched an immediate appeal and it was heard by an SFA disciplinary panel at Hampden Park yesterday.
Paterson broke off from duty with Scotland's under-21 squad to plead his case in person - and it was subsequently ruled that the red card should be reduced to a yellow.
The 20-year-old will now be available to face Inverness Caledonian Thistle when the Premiership resumes next Friday evening.
Speaking after the incident, Neilson said: "I don't think it is a sending-off. I've seen it already. For me it is not a red, but the referee makes the decision."
It is the third red card Collum - who is currently in Copenhagen to take charge of tomorrow evening's Euro 2016 qualifier between Denmark and Albania - has seen rescinded in the space of nine months.
He sent off St Mirren's Kenny McLean and Motherwell's Stephen McManus in the space of four days during the festive season last term, only for them BOTH to be rescinded.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
