KENNY MILLER, the Rangers striker, is confident Mark Warburton’s side will bounce back at the first attempt as they look to recover from their maiden defeat of the Championship campaign this weekend.
Rangers saw their lead at the top of the table cut to five points as they lost 2-1 to title rivals Hibernian at Easter Road on Sunday and will return to action when they host Alloa Athletic on Saturday. Goals from Jason Cummings and Paul Hanlon ensured a Lee Wallace effort counted for nothing in the Capital but boss Warburton was satisfied with the performance of his side and felt Rangers deserved something from the top of the table meeting.
Miller missed the game through a groin injury but he has no fears there will be a hangover this weekend as Warburton’s side look to get back to winning ways and maintain their advantage heading into the international break.
“We were disappointed after Sunday and it was a frustrating game but it’s one where there is nothing we can do about it,” he said. “The manager got us firmly focussed straight after the game on what we need to do and it’s to bounce back and get back to winning ways this weekend.
“We need to kick on and then go and win another 11 in a row and at the end of the day we have 24 games left and we’d like to think we could win every single one of them. The manager will have us right at it for Saturday, it is another home game and one we will be looking to win.
“It doesn’t matter who we’re playing, every single game we will approach the same; it’s another game and another three points.
“At home we will have 40,000-50,000 behind us so it’s important we go and put on a performance and win the game.”
After an impressive opening spell this season, Rangers have found the going tougher in the last couple of weeks, the matches against Falkirk, Queen of the South, Livingston and St Mirren proving to be tighter affairs and narrower wins before they lost their unbeaten record in Edinburgh. The League Cup loss to St Johnstone is the only black mark on their record at Ibrox so far this season and Miller hopes there will be another reason to be cheerful on home soil this weekend as Warburton’s side look to hit the goal trail once again.
“At the start of the season the way we were playing and they style of football was a real shock to some teams in the league and it was no coincidence we were winning by four or five,” he told rangers.co.uk. “They will maybe be a little tighter coming to Ibrox on Saturday but it is up to us to break them down and create the chances that we need to take to win the game.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
