JOSH WINDASS has set his sights on Ladbrokes Premiership glory with Rangers next season and revealed that manager Mark Warburton sold him on the club by making it clear that nothing other than title success will do.

The midfielder put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal with the champions in January and will be joined by Accrington Stanley team-mate Matt Crooks.

Windass saw his time at the Wham Stadium come to a disappointing end as John Coleman’s side missed out on automatic promotion to League One in the final seconds of the season before Stanley were then denied a dream date at Wembley and another shot at the third tier as they lost in the play-off semi-finals to AFC Wimbledon.

The 22-year-old will join up with Warburton's squad next weekend and he has lofty ambitions for his first term in Scottish football as the Ibrox side look to launch a top flight title bid at the first time of asking next season.

“At Accrington this season, we were favourites to get relegated but our expectation was to win the league and we nearly did it,” he told Herald Sport. “The aim for Rangers will be no different next season. I will work hard in pre-season and hopefully I can get myself into the starting eleven and we will see how things go from there.

“Last year I wanted 20 goals and I only got 17 so I was a bit disappointed with that. But I was injured for a bit of the season. I do set quite high expectations of myself. Maybe I should keep them quieter so when I don’t reach them nobody knows!

The Herald:

“When myself and Crooksy signed, the manager was really straightforward and he didn’t beat around the bush. He said he wanted to get back into the Premiership and we want to win the Premiership and beat Celtic to the league. He didn’t say ‘well, we want to have a couple of years at this and a couple of years at that’. He just went straight to the point and said ‘we are going up there to win the league’.

“That speaks volumes for how ambitious he is and how he wants to succeed as a manager. I am looking forward to playing for him. I have got some really good friends who have played under him at Brentford and they have all said unbelievable things about him so I can’t wait to work with him.”
