FORMER Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty has been charged by the FA for misconduct in relation to betting.

The Northern Ireland international, who starred for his country at Euro 2016 this summer, is alleged to have breached the governing body's rules on betting in February 2016.

Lafferty, now at Norwich City, is said to have placed a bet that breached FA Rule E8 and he has been given until August 5 to respond. The Herald: Northern Ireland's Kyle Lafferty believes his side boast one of the best back lines at Euro 2016

The 28-year-old spent four successful seasons at Ibrox between 2008 and 2012, winning three Scottish titles, two League Cups and one Scottish Cup and scoring 36 goals in 134 games for the Gers.

An FA statement read: "Kyle Lafferty has been charged by The FA for misconduct in relation to betting.

It is alleged that on 20 February 2016, the Norwich City forward placed a bet on the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of, or occurrence in, a football match or competition in breach of FA Rule E8.

He has until 5 August 2016 to respond to the charge."
