LEE WALLACE, the Rangers captain, is confident Mark Warburton’s side will be ‘highly competitive’ in the Premiership this season as the countdown continues to their top flight return.

Expectations at Ibrox have increased in recent weeks following the arrival of a host of summer signings, including the likes of Joey Barton and Niko Kranjcar, and many fans are confident of landing another Premiership title. After Rangers rounded off their pre-season schedule with a 3-1 defeat to Premier League Burnley on Saturday, striker Kenny Miller insisted that the Gers are capable of making a bid for the silverware this term.

Celtic skipper Scott Brown has dismissed Rangers’ chances of league glory and claimed that Aberdeen and Hearts will be the biggest threat to Brendan Rodgers’ side, but his Old Firm counterpart is pleased with the progress that has been made on Warburton’s watch ahead of the big kick-off against Hamilton Accies this weekend.

“What you can expect is what Rangers always do and that is to be highly competitive, to make sure we go into every single game being hard to beat, playing the right way and making sure that we can be the best we can every single time,” Wallace said. “That comes from how we train, that comes from our working week. There is no doubt we have added well, there is no doubt that we are training well so the preparations have been great. We will certainly go into every game hoping to win and making sure we will be highly competitive and win every game.

“That (Brown’s comments) is fine. This is the scenario we are going to be faced with and we are going to get that now that we are back in the top flight. We are ready for it. We are ready for the challenge. We are going to make sure we are highly competitive, that we are the best prepared we can be in every single match and we will see where it takes us.”
