CELTIC have been handed a €19,000 fine by UEFA for setting off fireworks during December's Champions League group stage match against Manchester City.

The Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body of European football's governing body confirmed the punishment on Friday.

The Hoops were charged a fine worth around £16,000 after fans set off fireworks during the 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium on December 6.

A UEFA statement read: "The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) has announced the following decision:

"Match: UEFA Champions League group stage match between Manchester City FC and Celtic FC (1-1), played on 6 December in Manchester, England.

"Decision: The CEDB has decided to fine Celtic FC €19,000.

"The charges against Celtic FC were related to setting off of fireworks – Art. 16 (2) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR) and crowd disturbances – Art. 16 (2) DR."

It is the tenth sanction Celtic have been handed by the body since December 2011 and the second this season, after the Bhoys were handed a €10,000 fine for displaying Palestinian flags against Hapoel Be'er Sheva in August.
