TRIBUTES have been paid outside Celtic Park in honour of the late Lisbon Lion Tommy Gemmell.

The European Cup winner died on Thursday morning aged 73 after a lengthy struggle with illness and fans have gathered at the stadium throughout the day to leave flowers, jerseys and messages of support. 

Gemmell, who also had spells with Nottingham Forest and Dundee as well as representing Scotland, scored the equaliser for Celtic in their famous 1967 European Cup final win over Inter.

The former left-back is one of only two Brits ever to have scored in two separate European Cup finals, having hit the net in the Hoops' 1970 defeat to Feyenoord as well.

Tributes have been flooding in throughout the day from across the world of football, with ex-Celtic striker Frank McAvennie describing Gemmell as 'one of the greats.'
