LIVINGSTON are not counting their chickens but the title is now within touching distance.

After the 4-2 home win over Airdrieonians, only Celtic have a more commanding lead in any of the major leagues in British football.

There were times when Airdrie threatened to take something but Livingston always seemed to find that extra gear and are now 11 points clear with six games left.

Danny Mullen, who hit a double, believes Airdrie played into Livingston’s hands.

“It was a good performance from start to finish,” he stressed. “Airdrie came out to play us as they do, and it suits us. They get the ball down and play but that’s another four goals against them, so it was a good day.

“Every game that I get to start or get minutes under my belt is good for my career.

“Things will come my way and, if I am not happy about it, I will have a moan now and again but it is all about maturing and getting on with things.

“We are just looking to the next game, against Brechin. Hopefully, we can take a bigger lead to the goal we really want at the end of the season.”

Alloa Athletic lost ground when they were held 2-2 at home by Queen’s Park who equalised in injury-time through Ewan MacPherson. Player manager Jim Goodwin conceded the title now looks to be gone, his only hope is Livingston “implode and we win every game”.

Iain Flannigan and Scott Taggart were both on the scoresheet for Alloa with David Galt scoring Queen’s Park’s first goal.

A late goal from Andy Jackson gave Brechin a 2-1 win over East Fife and moved them up to third. Liam Watt had given Brechin the lead only for
Chris Duggan to equalise from the penalty spot.

Ross Stewart scored twice as Albion Rovers won 3-0 at bottom club Stenhousemuir, their first win since January 7. Scott McBride also netted.

Jamie Redman scored in injury time after a disputed corner as Peterhead salvaged a 2-2 draw at home to Stranraer and manager Jim McInally admitted: “We got a break at the end.”

Rory McAllister put Peterhead in front but Stranraer hit back through Craig Malcolm and Scott Robertson.
