SCOTT SINCLAIR has been tipped for a potential England call up after his star showing for Celtic this season.
The former Aston Villa winger has already banged in 18 goals this season following his move north in the summer.
A potential player of the season candidate in the Ladbrokes Premiership, the 28-year-old has yet to be capped by his country at senior level despite being a regular in the English Premier League.
But after rediscovering his form under Brendan Rodgers at Parkhead, ex-Villa Park star Lee Hendrie reckons his old team-mate and now England boss Gareth Southgate is just the man to hand Sinclair his big chance.
“What we have seen from Gareth Southgate is that he’s willing to bring in the younger lads," he said. "We’ve seen England managers in the past going for the older and more experienced players but Gareth is going for youth.
“If Scott is scoring goals and creating and performing every week then I don’t see why he won’t get a shout. Gareth has worked with the Under-21s and the England youth set-up so he’ll know all about Scott Sinclair.
“Fraser Forster got the shout while he was playing for England so why shouldn’t Scott get picked? He’s still young but the key thing is that he’s quick and he scores goals."
Speaking last week about his hope for international recognition, Sinclair reckons playing in the Champions League with Celtic could be the key to unlocking the call up door.
He said: “I would love to play for my country. My ambition is still there.
“I just have to keep my head down and hopefully my time will come.
“There are not many English players playing Champions League football. Once we qualify again, I don’t see why it can’t help.
“For me it’s about working hard, getting my form back, which I have, and scoring goals and creating them in games.
“There was speculation of me getting in the full team when I was at Swansea, but that was a long time ago.
“It’s another level. It would be great to play for your country – any player will tell you that.”
