PFA Scotland chairman John Rankin has blasted the attitude of young players in Scottish football in response to points made by Scottish FA performance director Malky Mackay.

The former Cardiff boss yesterday encouraged teeenagers coming through the system to make sacrifices, work hard and look after their bodies in order to reach the top and suggested such an attitude has been missing in older generations.

Queen of the South captain Rankin, who was described as a 'fitness fanatic' by boss Gary Naysmith upon his signing for the Dumfries club in January, took to social media on Wednesday to support the points made by Mackay.

The 33-year-old suggested that there is a culture of the 'better kids' discouraging their peers from putting in extra work as well as suggesting that youngsters fail to cope with the demands made of them.
