SCOTLAND and Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney has been named in the PFA Championship team of the year after an impressive campaign with the Cottagers.

The 26-year-old has scored 10 league goals in 42 games this season to help in their bid for a play-off spot.

Cairney's form was rewarded by Scotland boss Gordon Strachan last month, when he was given his senior international debut during a friendly draw against Canada at Easter Road.

The midfielder provided the assist for Steven Naismith's goal on that occasion, but remained on the bench for the duration of the World Cup qualifying win over Slovenia four days later.

Fulham currently occupy sixth spot in the Championship table with three games remaining, but the Craven Cottage outfit are only ahead of Leeds United on goal difference.

Cairney's side travel to Huddersfield on Saturday before a home game against Brentford and a final day trip to Sheffield Wednesday.
