LEIGH Griffiths savoured Celtic’s 5-1 win over Rangers but felt the margin of victory should have been even greater. A Scott Sinclair penalty and goals from Griffiths, Callum McGregor, Dedryck Boyata and Mikael Lustig eased Celtic to their biggest ever win at Ibrox, with Rangers’ only positive note a consolation goal from Kenny Miller.

Griffiths, who has played second fiddle to the now-injured Moussa Dembele for large chunks of the campaign, clearly enjoyed the win although felt it could have been more, with the striker hitting the crossbar and Sinclair also missing two good first-half chances.

“I think it’s a real statement coming here and playing the way we did,” said Griffiths. “For the last 10 minutes of the game we took our foot off the gas a little bit. It was five going on seven or eight with the amount of chances we created. We gave Rangers limited space and played to our maximum today.”

The defeat was another setback for Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha on the back of the loss to Celtic in the previous weekend’s William Hill Scottish Cup semi-final but he chose to blame himself rather than his team.

“The players tried to do their very best, they had a fantastic attitude and they raised their level,” said the Portuguese. “Things didn’t go in the direction we were supposed to have planned so I am the man responsible. That’s what I take from this match. I saw more from my players this week, the way we started the game was in that direction.

“I am not a guy who puts the responsibility on others, I take it all the time. So judge me all the time. For things that are not going in the right direction I am responsible and I always will be.”
