EAST Fife manager Darren Young will start a game for the first time in over 18 months when Dunfermline Athletic pitch up at Bayview.
The 38-year-old will be involved because his squad is six players light due to injuries and suspensions.
Young, a former Aberdeen and Dunfermline player, pulled on the boots during his time as Albion Rovers manager and had thought he’d retired.
Young said: “It is not the ideal situation but as we are so short of bodies through injury I will be involved.
“Dunfermline got off to a flying start against Elgin and they will take confidence from winning 6-0.
“They will look to keep that going against us and there is also the small matter of the game being a derby so we need our defence to do a good job.”
Dunfermline manager Allan Johnston remains pleased with the demolition of Elgin but reckons his side can improve further.
He said: “We showed a bit of quality at the weekend but there is more to come. We have a good platform to build on as well as some local pride to play for.”
Ayr United travel to Dumbarton and their manager Stephen Aitken was impressed with the opposition in their 1-0 win over Kilmarnock.
Aitken said: “They have a good experienced squad and are a danger to all the teams in the group.
“Our record against them last season was disappointing however we were able to keep our place in the Championship so you could say that both teams have something to prove in this game.”
Ian McCall, the Ayr manager, wants his men to build on their success against Killie.
He said: “We played really well in the first half and defended strongly in the second. It’s a good start and has given our fans something to be very pleased about but we need to build on it.”
Michael Rose, Craig Reid and Alan Forrest are all set to miss out for the Ayrshire men.
Inverness Caledonian Thistle manager John Robertson has told his side to push on after their opening day success against Brechin City.
Robertson said: “It was a decent performance and I was particularly pleased that we had threats emerging from all areas of the pitch.
“Three wins should be enough for us to qualify from the group. We want to qualify and it is important to the club that we do.”
