DEDRYCK Boyata admits the pain of costly mistakes against Bayern was harder to handle for Celtic than being battered by the Germans or PSG.

Boyata was culpable for Munich’s first goal on Tuesday night in the Champions League as he lost sight of a high ball forward as the German’s took the lead.

The Belgian was also on the end of thrashings from Bayern two weeks earlier (3-0) and watched on as Celtic lost 5-0 to PSG, but he confessed the anguish from this week’s 2-1 reverse reduced the home changing room to stunned silence.

“We gave away two goals, I was involved in the first goal and when you analyse everything people will say OK we fought well and we came close but it is just not enough,” he said.

“Yeah it is harder to take. It is very hard, I was in the press before the game and I was saying that it was an opportunity to show what we can do. Whatever happens we had nothing to lose and when you come that close to doing something you look back and you think we gave them two goals.

“They were playing with a fake No 9 [James Rodriguez]. I could see him in front of me and he actually stopped and I thought OK I am alone. And then I saw Kingsley Coman who plays on the left and was just behind me and I was like ‘Oh’, I thought I was alone. As soon as the ball bounced everything just went quick and from that point you are just thinking ‘Oh God, what is going on?’

“So I feel very frustrated. We played well but we left with zero points. At that level every mistake costs. I can tell you as soon as we walked into the changing room the silence said everything.”
