Aberdeen 0 Motherwell 0: Law is flattered but goals continue to deceive hosts

Stuart McCall and Craig Brown can reminisce about any number of shared experiences, but their respective demeanours on Saturday spoke only of their differing fortunes this season.

The two managers have come to personify how their teams are treating the campaign; McCall smiling and joking as he deflected speculation that Rangers are eyeing a clutch of his Motherwell players, while Brown raked over the same, old ground after Aberdeen proved unable to find the net.

This was no classic. How could it have been on a pitch like the surface of the moon, with players needing too many touches to try and control the ball? Still, Aberdeen were able to engineer enough chances so as to feel disappointed a point, with Darren Randolph another source of frustration after a resolute display in the Motherwell goal.Nicky Law was not quite as assured as he raced in on goal late in the game, only for his first touch to be so poor that the chance got away from him. The Motherwell midfielder will find solace among the series of impressive displays he has turned in already this season, the sort that has attracted interest from Ibrox. Like his manager, though, Law did not seem perturbed by such reports. "I've had no contact from Rangers and have nothing to tell you on that," he said. "Motherwell have had initial talks with my agent and the agents of the five or six other out of contract players. That's it for now but I would have thought that in the next couple of weeks things will maybe start to materialise with all the lads whose deals finish in the summer."Rangers are a massive club and it's always flattering to have your name linked with these huge clubs, but that's all it is, just flattery."Speculation continues to mount on whether Brown and Archie Knox, his assistant, have a future at Pittodrie beyond the summer, too, and Stephen Hughes, one of the more experienced members of the Aberdeen squad, skirted round the issue."The gaffer and Archie are experienced enough to deal with speculation over their futures," said the midfielder. "We could make it easier for them if we could put the ball in the back of the net because we've played well in a lot of games but we lack the finishing touch."It's up to the board to sort out their situation. The manager has brought in a lot of older, experienced players and we enjoy working for him. The gaffer and Archie work hard and put the team out to win and we don't think about anything else."
