The Dutchman claimed that the trophies his team won between 1998 and 2002 justified a spend of around £36m on his first-team squad.
That included the Scottish record £12m paid to Chelsea for Tore Andre Flo during a period when Rangers' debt rose steeply. Advocaat added that resale profit on players such as Giovanni van Bronckhorst further justified that spend.
