Falkirk appear to have found some consistency after a patchy spell, reeling off their third successive 1-0 victory to put Livingston to the sword and push their promotion play-off ambitions.

Blair Alston settled this latest encounter but it should have been a more comfortable afternoon for the visitors to Almondvale as they held the upper hand for most of the 90 minutes.

In a fixture that only went ahead after passing a second pitch inspection due to frost, Falkirk dominated the first half, hitting the woodwork twice.

Their only reward was a well- executed 28th-minute goal from Alston, who curled the ball calmly beyond Livingston goalkeeper Darren Jamieson following a neat passing exchange between Luke Leahy and Tom Taiwo for what proved to be the matchwinning goal.

Livingston threatened more as the game wore on but Falkirk were not to be denied their fourth victory in a row in all competitions.

The order of the league table was only minimally changed after yesterday's fixtures, Dumbarton leapfrogging Raith Rovers to go sixth after a 2-1 victory at Bet Butler Stadium.

Double hero Scott Agnew held his nerve to send Raith goalkeeper David McGurn the wrong way with an 88th-minute penalty to seal the points after substitute Archie Campbell had been fouled in the area. The match could have gone either way in the closing stages as both sides had their chances but it was the home team who prevailed.

Christian Nade had an early chance for Raith but could not keep his shot down. Dumbarton hit back almost immediately with Mitch Megginson coming close.

Dumbarton suffered an early blow when Jordan Kirkpatrick limped off injured and was later taken to hospital. Mark Gilhaney also failed to make it to half-time, forcing another Dumbarton change.

But in between the injuries, Agnew struck a superb opening goal for Dumbarton, rifling a long-range shot into the top corner of the net past a bemused McGurn.

Chris Kane came close to adding a second for Ian Murray's side with a glancing header which slipped narrowly wide but Raith came back strongly.

Ryan Conroy almost equalised with a free-kick just before half-time which home goalkeeper Danny Rogers did well to divert over his crossbar.

Rogers again denied Conroy midway through the second half when he saved with his legs but moments later the lively Mark Stewart equalised after racing clear of the home defence and prodding the ball past Rogers. Garry Fleming was denied by a fine save from McGurn as Dumbarton finished strongly and they claimed their reward with Agnew's late penalty.
