Raith Rovers midfielder Grant Anderson intends to keep the records tumbling as they seek a first league win over Rangers at Stark's Park since 1970.
The Fifers claimed their first win at Ibrox Stadium in 56 years when goals from Ryan Conroy and Christian Nade sent the dismal Gers crashing out of the Scottish Cup fifth round 12 days ago. That continued their remarkable recent cup form against the Glasgow giants, having won their first trophy in 20 years by defeating them in last season's Challenge Cup final.
As a consequence, Anderson reckons Rovers have proved that records are there to be broken as they look to claim a first league win at home against Rangers since Brian Cooper secured a 2-1 win 45 years ago. Anderson said: "When you look at the length of time since Raith last won at Ibrox, it sums up the achievement. Growing up, Ibrox was always a fortress so to be able to say I've been there and knocked them out of the cup is something I can hold on to.
"We will take confidence from that and realise that it is doable and we have the quality in the team to beat them. However, you can't go into the game thinking it is a foregone conclusion that you'll win the game. They will be desperate to respond to their recent run and are a wounded animal. We need to focus and do what we did at Ibrox, and hopefully we can knock down another record."
One of Anderson's dashes down the right-flank played a pivotal role in Rovers' triumph in Govan, with a Jason Thomson delivery ultimately bundled home by Nade. And the genial winger - Glasgow born and bred - revealed that it was not only his energy that was sapped during an unforgettable afternoon as the waves of congratulations flooded in.
He smiled: "When I left the stadium I had full battery, when I got home it was completely dead with the amount of phone calls, messages and texts! "Everyone was keen to congratulate us and I had loads of calls from family and friends. "I'm from Glasgow, so a lot of my friends support Rangers or Celtic. So I had a few calls from the boys supporting Celtic saying: 'well done', and a few Gers fans not too amused that we beat their team! But everyone was happy for us."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
