The Parkhead side overcame Shakhter Karagandy in a dramatic play-off to reach the groups, with the additional reward of an increased pay-out from UEFA which will benefit their fellow Premiership clubs. The fee is thought to be in the region of £1m to be divided evenly among clubs.
"That is the ballpark figure," said Doncaster. "It is likely to be in the region of an extra £1m across the top tier. If you use that as a ballpark figure, you are not far wrong. It is solidarity money that is increased, you get some anyway but it's increased if you have a club in the group stage."
Doncaster was also quick to laud Celtic for their achievement and its impact on Scottish football as a whole. "Clearly [with regards reputation] it helps the entire game," he said. "All 42 clubs would have been right behind Celtic and would be delighted that they have reached the group stage."
