ARSENAL staged an astonishing comeback to reach the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup, recovering from being 4-0 down after 35 minutes to win 7-5 after extra-time with last-gasp goals from Theo Walcott and Marouane Chamakh on a drama-packed night at Reading

Jason Roberts, a Laurent Koscielny own goal, and strikes from Mikele Leigertwood and Noel Hunt got the hosts off the a flying start before Walcott reduced the leeway just on half-time.

Olivier Giroud just after the hour and Koscielny in the 89th minute brought Arsenal within a goal and six minutes into injury time Carl Jenkinson levelled after a Walcott shot was blocked.

Chamakh put Arsenal ahead for the first time after 103 minutes, Pavel Pogrebnyak levelled but Walcott and Chamakh denied Reading.Scott McDonald took Middlesbrough through with the only goal in their 1-0 win at Sunderland.The striker, was given a start by Tony Mowbray after he came off the bench to score both goals in last weekend's 2-1 Championship win over Bolton. McDonald scrambled home from close range late in the first half. The defeat ended Sunderland's dominance in this fixture as, until last night, they were undefeated against Boro in six games stretching back to January 2006.Southampton were knocked out when they lost 3-0 away to Leeds United after Nigel Adkins made 11 changes. The Leeds goals were scored by Michael Tonge in the first half and El-Hadji Diouf, and Luciano Becchio – with a last-minute penalty – in the second.Aston Villa reached the quarter-finals for the third time in four seasons thanks to Christian Benteke's late winner in a 3-2 victory at Swindon. Villa looked to be cruising as goals from Benteke and Gabriel Agbonlahor earned them a 2-0 half-time lead.But the League One side, who had already overcome Stoke in this season's competition, fought back with two goals from their substitute Miles Storey before Benteke had the final say.Shaun Maloney was a villain for Wigan as Bradford City pulled off a major shock to make it into the last eight, winning 4-2 on penalties after a 0-0 draw at the DW Stadium.The hosts, who made nine changes from the weekend created a host of opportunities but could not make a breakthrough during the 90 minutes or in extra-time.Maloney then blazed his penalty over and Jordi Gomez had his saved as the visitors advanced.
