Australia give up on Rogic after midfielder's latest groin injury

Tom Rogic has been omitted from Australia's World Cup squad after failing to prove his fitness.

The Celtic midfielder, who spent part of last season on loan at Melbourne Victory, limped off during the warm-up against Brazilian side Clube Parana, with a recurrence of a groin injury.

Ange Postecoglou, the coach said: "We have had to weigh up form, fitness and squad balance in coming up with the 23 players who will represent [us]."

The former Hearts defender Ryan McGowan expressed his delight at his inclusion on social media yesterday. He tweeted: "Dream come true to be selected in the World Cup squad - feel very honoured and privileged!"
