ALEX Neil toasted a "fantastic" start to his Norwich managerial career after his 10-man side came from behind to topple Championship leaders Bournemouth 2-1.

A spectacular strike from Cameron Jerome 10 minutes from time crowned a fine fightback from the visitors after Gary Hooper had cancelled out Matt Ritchie's opener.

The victory was even more impressive as Norwich midfielder Jonny Howson was sent off midway through the second half.

Neil said: "It was great to get the three points. We have quality players and they showed they have a good work ethic. We know we have a lot of work to do, but it is a great start."

Neil watched most of the game from the stands as caretaker boss Mike Phelan selected the side for the final time. The former Hamilton chief joined Phelan in the technical area following Howson's 64th-minute dismissal for a challenge on Bournemouth substitute Yann Kermorgant.

Neil added: "I came down to the touchline at that point because we needed to change things around tactically and thankfully Cameron came up with a great winning goal. I did not even think it was a free-kick."

Norwich put the league pacesetters under the cosh from the start, but were rocked when Richie put away their first meaningful chance in the 18th minute. The Canaries levelled nine minutes before the break with a goal which left Bournemouth incensed. Jerome's header from a corner hit Michael Turner and deflected for Hooper to fire into the net. Bournemouth players surrounded referee Chris Foy claiming Turner had handled the ball.

The second half was scrappy as Bournemouth struggled to find their usual passing rhythm and Norwich dug in. The visitors were forced to play out the final 27 minutes a man light after Howson was shown a straight red card for his two-footed lunge on Yann Kermorgant.

The dismissal prompted new Carrow Road chief Neil to scurry down to pitchside and his instructions clearly had the desired effect.

Jerome locked down the three points with an unstoppable shot past Artur Boruc from 20 yards.
