Brown offers Aberdeen fans hope of better times ahead

Craig Brown assumed the role of salesman yesterday as he sat before the media and endeavoured to persuade Aberdeen's support they will have something more acceptable to cheer next term.

As Aberdeen limp towards the summer recess, Brown recognises that a lack of goals from a side devoid of flair and creativity meant performances flatlined too long ago and, with a number of players heading for the exit, he must resuscitate not only his squad but the interest of the fans.

While pointing to the need to recruit a goalscorer as his main priority, he is also keen to bring in two or three others, but there is a sense that he will have to make do and mend for many positions in the team."I hope it is not going to be a hard sell of season tickets, despite our disappointing season," he said. "We have been hit hard by injuries and I think without those injury problems we would have been in the top half of the table."From the team which drew at Kilmarnock on Saturday, we are losing a few players and we will be replacing Mark Reynolds [returning to Sheffield Wednesday] with Russell Anderson; Clark Robertson will come in for Rory McArdle, who is leaving, and we have Stephen Hughes in midfield for Kari Arnason."We would like to get Jonny Hayes from Inverness but he's waiting until the end of the season before he makes up his mind about his next move."
