Following the announcement on Sunday that Jimmy Boyle had been relieved of his duties after three years in charge at the Excelsior Stadium, a trio of candidates have emerged as frontrunners for the vacant post.
Allan Maitland, the former Hamilton Academical and Alloa Athletic manager, East Stirlingshire chief John Coughlin and former player Stuart Taylor are all believed to be interesting Airdrie, who sit bottom of SPFL League 1 following a 2-0 defeat by Forfar Athletic.
A source close to Maitland said: "Airdrie have been keen on Allan in the past. It's a job he would be great at, but he enjoys what he does at Hamilton [director]. But he has shown in the past that he is a good manager and he may want to show that again." Coughlin's East Stirlingshire sit atop SPFL League 2 while Taylor is presently in charge of Irish side Limerick who sit seventh in the Airtricity League.
