Capital fans urge clubs to oppose admission

HEARTS and Hibernian fans, in separate online polls, have voted overwhelmingly against the idea of a Rangers newco being granted straight admission to the SPL.

Among 819 people who gave their verdict on the Jambos Kickback fans' forum, 98% said the Tynecastle club should oppose such a move. On hibs.net, 99% of a similar total voted "no" to the question: "Should a newco be allowed to start in the SPL?".

Representatives of some Hibs supporters' groups made their feelings clear to the club after the newco issue was raised at a meeting with fans on Wednesday night.The Easter Road club have dropped a strong hint that they will vote against a newco being allowed into the league. St Johnstone and Aberdeen have suggested they will take a similar stance. Hearts have yet to make their position clear, although their director Sergejus Fedotovas said last month the focus on learning lessons from the Ibrox crisis rather than punishing the club.Dunfermline Athletic, relegated at the end of last season, have asked the SPL to clarify whether they would be re-admitted if Rangers fail to gain entry. Another possibility is that Dundee, the first division runners-up, might take the place of the Ibrox side but there is no precedent for what would happen if the vote goes against Rangers.Bill Hodgins, the East End Park chief executive, said: "At the moment, the whole thing is very hazy. The SPL and SFA really need to make some decisions."
