JON DALY insists the pain and humiliation suffered by Rangers in cup competitions must be used as a weapon as they continue to chase success on four fronts.

The Ibrox side remain involved in all domestic tournaments and travel to East Fife tomorrow evening in the quarter-finals of the Petrofac Training Cup.

Daly still smarts from losing to Raith Rovers in the final of that competition last season and believes that, and other disappointments, must inspire the Ibrox players in their endeavours to make this a truly significant campaign.

"I hope we can use that as a tool to help ourselves go further in these tournaments," he said.

"We know the squad we have is excellent and there's plenty of strength in depth too.

"This is a cup that we want to go and win - just the same as the other cups we are in.

"It would be great to go on and win silverware and medals because that's what you look back on when your career is over."

Rangers defeated Raith Rovers 6-1 at Ibrox on Saturday, but they remain nine points behind Hearts in the SPFL Championship with one game in hand. With a November 22 visit to Tynecastle drawing closer, the pressure is mounting on the manager, Ally McCoist, and his squad, but Daly says they remain united and single-minded in their purpose. "Hearts are obviously on a crest of a wave right now, but it's down to us to concentrate on ourselves and try not to worry about them," he said. "Obviously, it's a result we look for when we come in, but we need to make sure it doesn't get to us.

"Whatever Hearts do is secondary to our own results. There is still a long way to go in the season.

"They have given themselves a great advantage, but trying to close the gap is something that we relish and I hope we can get in touch with them soon."
